VanDerveer reached the midway point of her incredible journey when she notched career win No. 500 in a 73-65 win over Pacific on Nov. 26, 2000. “It just means I've been around a long time and coached a lot of great players,” she said at the time.
Always one to live in the moment, when asked if she’d be around for 500 more, VanDerveer said, “I keep coming back to just really enjoying the game. Enjoying the day today and not worrying about what's down the road for the season or for the team years from now.”
